History

We are very excited to have this opportunity to share our plan to build a Miracle League Complex in Murrysville. It all started with the dream of George O’Donnell, who volunteers his time with over 100 children and young adults in our community who have a disability. When the group plays baseball, they use the dirt field at Haymaker Park in Murrysville, secured for the community over fifty years ago by the Rotary. Over the years, many games have to be called when the weather makes the field unusable to people with wheelchairs and other physical challenges. With your help, this can be corrected.

The Rotary Club of Murrysville-Export learned of George’s dream to build a Miracle Field. We committed to take the lead for fundraising and the project management. Based on our research, and after visiting Miracle League Fields around the country, we have found similar projects supported through community service organizations.

This research and George’s first hand knowledge of the needs of people with disabilities have motivated us to embark on a larger plan than the typical Miracle League field. Our partnership with the Municipality of Murrysville, that donated the land for the project, encouraged us to explore other venues to also include the senior citizen population of western Pennsylvania.

Our expanded plan includes a baseball field that can be used by children as well as adults with disabilities. Additionally, this inclusive recreational complex plan will enable the people in our community to enjoy a potential putting layout for golf and soccer on the baseball field surface. There will also be a safe surfaced, 3% grade walking trail which will also accommodate seniors and mothers with strollers and small children.
